Beclomethasone falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Danshen interacts with.

Danshen might alter the levels of drugs cleared by p-glycoprotein.
Pharmacokinetic research in healthy volunteers suggests that danshen might affect p-glycoprotein activity. Taking danshen extract 1 gram three times daily for 10 days prior to receiving fexofenadine 60 mg increases peak levels of fexofenadine, a p-glycoprotein substrate, by 27.4% and area under the curve (AUC) by 37.2%.

Here's the situation with Danshen and your Beclomethasone inhaler. Danshen may slow down a transporter in your body called p-glycoprotein, which helps move certain drugs out. In one small study it raised blood levels of another drug that uses this same pathway. So in theory, Danshen could let a bit more beclomethasone stick around in your system.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't lose much sleep over this one. Beclomethasone is inhaled and works mostly right in your airways, so very little reaches your bloodstream to begin with. Any change is likely small. Still, if you take concentrated Danshen supplements daily, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially since Danshen can also thin the blood. Don't stop either one on your own.

Beclomethasone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Danshen might alter the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Preliminary clinical research in healthy males shows that the administration of danshen for 10-14 days induces intestinal CYP3A4 and increases the clearance of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. The maximum concentration of midazolam was decreased by 31% to 67%, and drug levels were decreased by 27% to 80%. However, a single dose of danshen has the opposite effect, increasing maximum concentrations of midazolam by 87%.

Here's the good news for asthma users: Beclomethasone (Beclovent, Vanceril) is an inhaled steroid that mostly works right in your airways, so very little gets into your bloodstream to begin with. The interaction on file is about Danshen changing CYP3A4, the liver and gut enzyme that breaks this steroid down. Taken for a couple of weeks, Danshen seems to speed that enzyme up, which could lower already-tiny blood levels even further. A single dose may briefly do the opposite.

In real life, this is unlikely to change how well your inhaler controls wheezing or coughing, since its action is local. The bigger reason to check in is that Danshen itself can thin the blood. I'd still mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Beclomethasone Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Beclovent, Vanceril

Beclomethasone dipropionate HFA inhalation aerosol (brand: Qvar Redihaler) is used for the ongoing, daily management of asthma in adults and children 5 years of age and older. It is a preventive (maintenance) therapy — not a rescue inhaler — meaning it helps control asthma over time rather than treating sudden symptoms.

Important: Qvar Redihaler is not for the relief of sudden asthma attacks or acute bronchospasm. Always keep a separate fast-acting (rescue) inhaler on hand for those moments.
