Here's a flip on what you might expect: in this pairing, it's your birth control (Yaz) that affects the guarana, not the other way around. The estrogen in Yaz can slow down how your body clears caffeine, and since guarana is basically concentrated caffeine, that caffeine can hang around longer and build up.

What that means in real life is you may feel the caffeine more strongly than usual. Think jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, anxiety, or an upset stomach, even from an amount that normally wouldn't bother you. Yaz itself still works fine. If you notice you're extra wired, consider easing back on guarana and other caffeine sources, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor if it keeps happening.
