Here's the short version: the caffeine in guarana could, in theory, nudge your blood sugar a little. The reports are mixed, with some suggesting caffeine raises blood sugar and others suggesting it lowers it. This isn't about guarana changing how your body handles dapagliflozin (Farxiga) directly. Farxiga works in your kidneys to flush extra sugar out through your urine, and guarana doesn't block or speed up that process.

The evidence here is weak and the effect, if any, is small, so an occasional energy drink or cup of guarana tea is unlikely to throw off your numbers. If you use concentrated guarana supplements daily, just keep an eye on your blood sugar readings and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
