Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Glipizide
Glipizide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Guarana interacts with.
Some conflicting reports claim that caffeine, a constituent of guarana, might increase or decrease blood sugar.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the simple version: glipizide works by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin, which brings your blood sugar down. Guarana is basically a concentrated caffeine source, and caffeine has a bit of a mixed reputation when it comes to blood sugar. Some reports suggest it might raise blood sugar slightly, while others hint it could lower it. The honest answer is that the evidence here is weak and conflicting, so any effect is likely small and not something most people will notice.
I wouldn't lose sleep over an occasional cup of guarana-containing energy drink. The bigger thing to watch is that the jittery, racy feeling from too much caffeine can mask early low blood sugar symptoms like shakiness or a fast heartbeat. If you use guarana regularly, just check your readings and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Glipizide page
“Glipizide (Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL) lowers blood sugar by prompting the pancreas to release more insulin, and that same power is why I read its supplement list with real seriousness. Of the 307 ingredients on file, 239 also act on blood glucose, so stacking them can drive sugar dangerously low.”

About Guarana
What is Guarana?
- Energy and alertness
- Reducing fatigue
- Weight loss support
- Athletic performance
- Mental focus
Guarana is an Amazonian seed that is naturally high in caffeine, which explains most of its stimulant and energy effects. While it may give a short-term boost in alertness and reduce fatigue, strong evidence for weight loss or major performance gains is limited, and it carries the same risks as too much caffeine. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have heart problems, anxiety, or are pregnant.
About Glipizide
What Is Glipizide Used For?
Brand names: Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL
Glipizide tablets and glipizide extended-release tablets are both used as an add-on to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of uncontrolled blood sugar).

Glipizide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Glipizide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Guarana — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
