Here's the gist with hemp and flutamide. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help process flutamide, and lab research suggests hemp might speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, your body could clear flutamide a little faster, which in theory might make it slightly less effective at blocking the male hormones that feed prostate cancer cells.

The honest part: this is rated minor and comes only from test-tube studies, not from people. Everyday hemp foods like hemp seeds or hemp oil are very unlikely to cause a problem. Since flutamide is a cancer treatment, though, don't change anything on your own. Just give your oncology team or pharmacist a heads-up before using concentrated hemp supplements.

Here's the basic idea with hemp and flutamide. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to process flutamide, and lab studies suggest hemp might speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in the body, your system could clear flutamide a little faster, which in theory might make it slightly less effective at blocking the male hormones driving prostate cancer growth.

Now, the honest part: this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from real patients, and it's rated as a minor, theoretical interaction. Everyday hemp seeds or hemp oil in food are very unlikely to cause a problem. Still, because flutamide is treating cancer, I'd run any concentrated hemp supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first before adding it.

About Flutamide

What Is Flutamide Used For?

Brand names: Eulexin, Euflex

Eulexin (flutamide) capsules are used to treat prostate cancer in men. They are always used together with an LHRH agonist (a hormone-lowering injection), never alone.

Eulexin is indicated for two stages of prostate cancer: locally confined Stage B2-C prostate cancer (used alongside goserelin acetate and radiation therapy, starting eight weeks before radiation begins) and Stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the prostate, taken with an LHRH agonist until the disease progresses).
