Propafenone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with.

Theoretically, Rauvolfia vomitoria might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of the drug yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist for Rythmol (propafenone). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to break this drug down. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a small amount of yohimbine, and lab studies suggest yohimbine can slow that same enzyme. If it does, propafenone could clear more slowly and build up in your body.

Propafenone has a fairly tight margin, so higher levels can mean more dizziness, a slow or irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, or a metallic taste. On top of that, this plant strongly affects blood pressure and heart rhythm on its own, which makes combining them a bigger deal. The good news: this interaction is theoretical and based only on test-tube data, not people. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using them together.

What Is Propafenone Used For?

Brand names: Rythmol, Arythmol

Propafenone is used to help control abnormal heart rhythms. It is prescribed to delay the return of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (episodic irregular heartbeats in the upper chambers) and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT, sudden fast heartbeats starting above the heart's lower chambers) — but only in people who do not have structural heart disease.

It is also used to treat life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (dangerous fast rhythms starting in the heart's lower chambers). Because of serious safety concerns, it is not recommended for minor or non-life-threatening heart rhythm problems.
