Lurbinectedin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Here's the gist for Zepzelca (lurbinectedin). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this chemotherapy down. Some lab research hints that yohimbe may speed up that enzyme, which could clear lurbinectedin from your system a little faster. In theory, that might make your cancer treatment work less well. Lurbinectedin is an active drug, not a prodrug, so faster breakdown means weaker effect, not stronger.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is only test-tube data, rated minor, so we really don't know if it matters in people. But since this is a serious cancer medicine, please don't add yohimbe without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Lurbinectedin Injection

What Is Lurbinectedin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Zepzelca

Zepzelca (lurbinectedin) injection is approved for adults with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) in two settings. First, Zepzelca is used in combination with atezolizumab (or atezolizumab and hyaluronidase-tqjs) as maintenance treatment for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) in patients whose disease did not progress after initial treatment with those same immunotherapy drugs plus carboplatin and etoposide.

Second, Zepzelca is approved as a single agent for adults with metastatic small cell lung cancer whose cancer has worsened during or after platinum-based chemotherapy. This second use was granted accelerated approval based on tumor response rates, and continued approval depends on results from confirmatory clinical trials.
