Nusinersen Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, combining yohimbe bark with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might have additive effects; however, this has not been reported in clinical research.
Research in healthy adults shows that taking yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe bark, in doses of 8 mg or more, seems to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro by binding to the alpha-2 adrenoceptor. The effects of yohimbe bark itself are unclear; yohimbe bark contains 0.6% to 1.38% yohimbine, but it is unclear how much is absorbed.

Here's the honest picture for Spinraza (nusinersen). It's grouped here with blood thinners because of how it's given, but it isn't broken down by the liver enzymes that yohimbe affects, so this isn't a typical metabolism clash. The real concern is bleeding. Yohimbine, the active part of yohimbe, may make platelets a little stickier or less able to clump in lab studies, and Spinraza is injected by lumbar puncture (a spinal tap into the lower back).

This is theoretical and based only on lab work, not real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, anything that could nudge bleeding around a spinal injection deserves a heads-up. Please tell your care team you use yohimbe before your dose so they can decide what's safest.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

What Is Nusinersen Injection Used For?

Brand name: Spinraza

Spinraza (nusinersen) is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness by reducing the body's ability to make a protein called SMN (survival motor neuron). Spinraza is approved for pediatric and adult patients with SMA.

Spinraza is given by intrathecal injection — directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord — so the medicine can reach the central nervous system where it's needed most.
