Yohimbe + Oestrogen
Oestrogen brand name: Oestrogen.
Oestrogen falls into 3 drug categories that Yohimbe can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, CYP3A4 inhibitors might increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe bark.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Yohimbe interacts with whole categories of medication. Oestrogen falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Yohimbe in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS
1 of 3Why this applies to Oestrogen
Oestrogen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.
In vitro and clinical research shows that the yohimbe bark constituent, yohimbine, is metabolized by CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, drugs that inhibit CYP3A4 might increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pair: it's actually the yohimbe that gets affected, not your estrogen. Estrogen can mildly slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and that same enzyme is what your body uses to break down yohimbine (the active part of yohimbe bark). So if that breakdown is slowed, yohimbine could build up a bit higher than expected.
In real terms, that means a greater chance of yohimbe's typical side effects, things like a racing heart, jitteriness, anxiety, and elevated blood pressure. This is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs behave, not strong proof, so don't panic. Still, because over-the-counter yohimbe is unpredictable, it's worth running this past your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Oestrogen also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with yohimbe and your estrogen. Some lab research hints that yohimbe might speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which helps process estrogen. If that happened in real life, your body could clear estrogen a little faster, which in theory might soften how well it works. For someone using estrogen for menopause symptoms, that could mean a return of things like hot flashes or night sweats.
I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube studies, not from people, and it's rated minor. Estrogen is also not a prodrug, so there's no flip to worry about. Still, yohimbe carries its own risks like raising blood pressure and heart rate, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
3 of 3Oestrogen also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: some lab research suggests yohimbe may rev up an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down estrogen. If that happens, your estrogen could be cleared a little faster, meaning slightly lower levels in your system. In theory, that could make your estrogen work a bit less effectively (for example, the return of menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, or, if you rely on it for contraception, a small concern about reduced protection).
I want to be honest with you though: this is based only on test-tube studies, not on people, so the real-world effect is uncertain and rated as minor. The bigger issue with yohimbe is its own side effects, like raising blood pressure and heart rate. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

This page covers Yohimbe only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Oestrogen page lists 211 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate) and Adrafinil (moderate).
By severity: 3 major · 170 moderate · 38 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oestrogen page
“Anyone taking oestrogen should read this page with real care, because the most serious entries can quietly push hormone levels up or wipe them out. Grapefruit blocks the liver enzyme that clears estrogen, raising levels and the risk of side effects, while St.”

About Yohimbe
What is Yohimbe?
- Erectile dysfunction
- Low sex drive
- Sexual performance
- Weight loss
- Athletic performance
Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Oestrogen Is Linked to Lower Levels of 5 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Oestrogen as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Yohimbe — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
