Amiodarone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Danshen interacts with.

Danshen might alter the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Preliminary clinical research in healthy males shows that the administration of danshen for 10-14 days induces intestinal CYP3A4 and increases the clearance of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. The maximum concentration of midazolam was decreased by 31% to 67%, and drug levels were decreased by 27% to 80%. However, a single dose of danshen has the opposite effect, increasing maximum concentrations of midazolam by 87%.

Here's the situation with these two. Your body clears amiodarone partly through a liver and gut enzyme called CYP3A4. Danshen seems to speed that enzyme up when taken steadily over a week or two, which could mean your body breaks down amiodarone a bit faster and your blood levels drift lower. For a powerful, slow-acting heart rhythm drug like amiodarone, even small shifts matter, so a drop in levels could let the dangerous arrhythmia it's controlling sneak back.

The evidence here is limited and comes mostly from a study using a different drug, so this is a maybe, not a certainty. Interestingly, a single Danshen dose did the opposite. Please don't change anything on your own. Just run this by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Amiodarone is prescribed for adults with serious, life-threatening heart-rhythm problems that haven't responded to other medications. Specifically, it's used for two dangerous arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats): recurrent ventricular fibrillation (a chaotic, potentially fatal heart rhythm) and recurrent ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm that causes unstable blood pressure).

Because amiodarone comes with significant risks, doctors reserve it for situations where other options haven't worked or can't be tolerated. It is not a first-choice medication — it's a last-resort tool for serious, life-threatening conditions.
