Avandamet combines two diabetes medicines, metformin and rosiglitazone, that work together to lower your blood sugar. Guarana is basically a concentrated source of caffeine, and the concern here is small: caffeine can nudge blood sugar in either direction. Some studies show it bumping levels up a little, others show the opposite, so the picture is genuinely mixed.

The honest takeaway is that this is mostly theoretical, the evidence is weak, and a real problem is unlikely. A cup of coffee or a little guarana probably won't undo your medication. That said, heavy use of caffeine-loaded energy products could make your numbers harder to read and add jitters or a faster heartbeat. If you check your sugars at home and use guarana regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your readings.

Guarana contains caffeine. Animal research shows that metformin can reduce caffeine metabolism. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the interesting twist with this one: it's not your blood sugar pill that gets affected, it's the caffeine in the guarana. Avandamet contains metformin, and in animal studies metformin appeared to slow down how the body clears caffeine. If that holds true in people, the caffeine could hang around longer and hit a little harder than expected. That might mean more jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling anxious or shaky.

Now, the honest part: this has only been seen in lab and animal research, never confirmed in humans, and it's rated as minor. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it (no pun intended). Just be mindful of your total caffeine, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you notice it bothering you.
