Amlodipine Besylate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Here's the gist: amlodipine (Norvasc) lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. The thought is that hemp seed protein might nudge blood pressure down a little too, so in theory the two together could add up and drop your pressure a bit more than expected.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. The blood-pressure effect only showed up in animals that already had high blood pressure, and in humans hemp seed oil didn't actually lower blood pressure. So for most people eating hemp seeds or oil as food, this is very unlikely to cause a problem. If you ever feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, that can signal blood pressure running low, so mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear amlodipine (Norvasc). The thinking here is that hemp might nudge that enzyme to work a little faster. If amlodipine gets broken down quicker, your blood levels could dip a bit, which in theory might make it slightly less effective at keeping your blood pressure down or controlling chest pain.

Here is the reassuring part: this concern comes only from lab studies, not from people, and it is rated as a minor interaction. Eating hemp seeds or hemp oil as food is very unlikely to cause any real problem. If you do use concentrated hemp supplements, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, and keep an eye on your home blood pressure readings. Don't change anything on your own.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norvasc

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
