Ketoconazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the gist for hemp and ketoconazole. Your body clears ketoconazole partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some early lab research suggests hemp might gently speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, your system could break down ketoconazole a little faster, which in theory might leave slightly less of it around to fight your fungal infection.

I don't want to overstate this. The evidence here is very weak, coming only from test-tube studies, and it's rated a minor interaction. Ketoconazole is not a prodrug, so faster clearing means a touch less effect, not more. Everyday culinary amounts of hemp seeds or oil are unlikely to matter. Still, since you want your infection fully treated, mention any concentrated hemp supplements to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Ketoconazole Used For?

Brand name: Nizoral

Ketoconazole 2% shampoo and foam are used to treat tinea versicolor (also called pityriasis versicolor) — a fungal infection caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare (also known as Malassezia furfur), a yeast that naturally lives on the skin.

This infection creates light or dark patches, most often on the trunk, neck, arms, and upper thighs. Even after the fungus is cleared, those skin patches may take months to return to their normal color — that's normal, and depends on your skin type and sun exposure. Tinea versicolor can also come back, since the fungus lives on healthy skin even when there's no active infection.
