Hemp + Losartan Potassium
Losartan Potassium brand name: Cozaar.
Losartan Potassium falls into 2 drug categories that Hemp can interact with; the most serious is rated minor. Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Hemp interacts with whole categories of medication. Losartan Potassium falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Hemp in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Losartan Potassium
Losartan Potassium falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hemp interacts with.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist: losartan (Cozaar) lowers your blood pressure by blocking angiotensin, and hemp seed protein might nudge in the same direction by tinkering with the renin and ACE systems. In theory, that could add up to a slightly bigger blood-pressure-lowering effect, which might mean dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, or feeling unusually tired.
But I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from lab and animal studies, the effect only showed up in animals that already had high blood pressure, and hemp seed oil didn't actually lower blood pressure in people. Eating hemp seeds as food is very unlikely to cause a problem. If you take concentrated hemp protein supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Losartan Potassium also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with hemp and your losartan (Cozaar). Lab studies suggest hemp might speed up an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways your body uses to process losartan. If hemp nudges that enzyme to work faster, it could, in theory, clear losartan a little quicker and slightly soften its blood-pressure-lowering effect. In plain terms, your numbers might creep up a bit.
I want to be honest about how weak this signal is, though. It comes only from test-tube and animal research, not from real people, and it's rated as a minor, theoretical concern. Eating hemp seeds or hemp oil as food is very unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated hemp supplements, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up and keep an eye on your blood pressure.

About Hemp
What is Hemp?
- Plant-based protein source
- Heart health support
- Skin and hair health
- Reducing inflammation
- General nutrition (omega fatty acids)
Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are nutritious foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they are generally safe for most people as part of the diet. While the nutrition is real, strong human evidence that hemp supplements treat specific medical conditions is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using hemp products for a health concern, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
About Losartan
What Is Losartan Used For?
Brand name: Cozaar
Losartan tablets — available as branded Cozaar and several generic products — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Losartan tablets are also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure who also have left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged left side of the heart). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients.
Losartan tablets are additionally approved to protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and signs of kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy). Arbli, the oral suspension form, shares these same approved uses.
