Here's the thing to keep in mind: your Capozide already lowers blood pressure two ways. Captopril relaxes your blood vessels, and hydrochlorothiazide flushes out extra fluid and salt. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a small amount of reserpine, which is itself an old blood pressure drug. So you'd essentially be pushing on the gas pedal of blood pressure lowering from another direction.

The worry is that your pressure could drop too low. That can show up as dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling faint when you stand up, fatigue, or even fainting. This is a theoretical concern based on how these ingredients work, not from strong studies, but it's a sensible caution. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
