STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Aminophylline, Amobarbital, Ephedrine
Aminophylline, Amobarbital, Ephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking yohimbe with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about combining yohimbe with this old combination product (Amesec). Two of its ingredients, ephedrine and aminophylline, are stimulants. Ephedrine revs up your system much like adrenaline, and aminophylline (a theophylline-type drug) also speeds the heart. Yohimbe's active compound, yohimbine, works as a stimulant too and can push blood pressure up.
Stack them together and the effects may pile on, meaning a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, and higher blood pressure. This concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than firm studies, so don't panic. Still, since the stimulant push could add up, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aminophylline, Amobarbital, Ephedrine page
“Amesec is an unusual mix, a sedative barbiturate (amobarbital) plus the stimulant ephedrine and the asthma drug aminophylline, so its interaction list pulls hard in both directions and deserves real care, with 21 of the 151 ingredients rated major. The most everyday hazard is caffeine.”

About Yohimbe
What is Yohimbe?
- Erectile dysfunction
- Low sex drive
- Sexual performance
- Weight loss
- Athletic performance
Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
