Let's talk about combining yohimbe with Limbitrol, which is amitriptyline paired with chlordiazepoxide. The amitriptyline part is cleared in part by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies hint that yohimbine, the active piece of yohimbe, may slow that enzyme down. If that happens, amitriptyline could build up a bit and you might notice more of its usual effects: drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat.

Here's my honest take. This is only test-tube evidence, so it's theoretical rather than proven in people. But yohimbe on its own can already raise blood pressure and heart rate, which is a bigger worry alongside this medicine. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS (TCAs)

Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide also falls under TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS (TCAs).

Theoretically, taking yohimbe with TCAs can increase adverse effects.
A small clinical study in patients taking TCAs for at least 4 weeks shows that receiving doses of intravenous yohimbine 2.5-20 mg daily for up to 7 days precipitates severe anxiety, agitation, and tremor. The effects of yohimbe bark itself are unclear; oral yohimbe bark contains 0.6% to 1.38% yohimbine, but it is unclear how much is absorbed.

Limbitrol DS combines a tricyclic antidepressant (amitriptyline) with a sedative (chlordiazepoxide). The concern with yohimbe here isn't about one product blocking the breakdown of the other. Instead, both yohimbe and amitriptyline affect the same adrenergic (adrenaline-type) signaling in your body. Stacking them could tip you toward feeling wired and jittery.

In a small study, people on a tricyclic who were given yohimbine ran into severe anxiety, agitation, and tremor. That fits what we'd worry about: a racing or pounding heart, a spike in blood pressure, restlessness, and the shakes. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and based on the drug's pharmacology, and how much yohimbine you actually absorb from bark supplements is unclear. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the gist for your Limbitrol DS (a combo of amitriptyline, an antidepressant, and chlordiazepoxide, a benzodiazepine for anxiety). Lab studies hint that yohimbe might speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which helps clear amitriptyline. Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate.
