These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Yohimbe interacts with whole categories of medication. Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Yohimbe in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
STIMULANT DRUGS
1 of 3Why this applies to Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate
Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking yohimbe with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: both yohimbe and injectable caffeine (the caffeine and sodium benzoate combo) are stimulants. Caffeine revs up your nervous system, while yohimbine acts like adrenaline by blocking certain receptors that control blood pressure and heart rate. Stack them together and those effects can add up.
So what could that look like? Think racing or pounding heartbeat, jittery or anxious feelings, trouble sleeping, and a rise in blood pressure. This concern is based on how these two work in theory, not on hard clinical studies, so it isn't a guaranteed reaction. Still, if you have heart trouble or high blood pressure, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them. Caffeine is not a prodrug, so the stimulant effect simply gets stronger here.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version on combining yohimbe with caffeine and sodium benzoate (the injectable caffeine product). Your body clears caffeine using a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Some lab research hints that yohimbe may speed up that enzyme, which could in theory clear caffeine a little faster and make it slightly less effective. So this points toward a weaker caffeine effect, not a buildup.
Honestly, this is a very weak, theoretical finding from test-tube studies only, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger real-world concern is the opposite: both yohimbe and caffeine are stimulants, so together they can raise your blood pressure, cause a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, and anxiety. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
3 of 3Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that yohimbe extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for combining yohimbe with caffeine and sodium benzoate. In the lab, yohimbe extract seems to speed up an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one pathway your body uses to clear certain medicines. If that held true in people, it could mean your body breaks down some drugs a little faster, leaving slightly lower levels in your system.
The bigger picture, though, is that both yohimbe and caffeine are stimulants. Stacking them is more likely to add up to a racing heart, jitteriness, anxiety, and higher blood pressure than to cause any drop in effect. This particular enzyme interaction is only theoretical and based on test-tube data, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but please run the combo past your pharmacist or doctor first given the stimulant overlap.

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate page
“Caffeine and sodium benzoate is itself a stimulant medication, so the supplements most likely to cause trouble are the ones doing the same job. Seven of the 208 ingredients on file rate major, several of them stimulant herbs such as ephedra that can pile extra blood pressure and heart strain onto a drug already revving the nervous system.”

About Yohimbe
What is Yohimbe?
- Erectile dysfunction
- Low sex drive
- Sexual performance
- Weight loss
- Athletic performance
Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
