Telmisartan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Theoretically, concomitant use of yohimbe and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.

Here's the gist: telmisartan (Micardis) is doing its job by relaxing your blood vessels to bring your pressure down. Yohimbe works in the opposite direction. The yohimbine in it can rev up your nervous system and actually raise blood pressure and speed up your heart rate. So putting the two together is like having one foot on the brake and one foot on the gas. The worry is that yohimbe could blunt how well telmisartan controls your numbers, and you might notice more headaches, a racing heartbeat, or readings that creep back up.

To be fair, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these work rather than hard studies. Still, over-the-counter yohimbe doses are unpredictable, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

What Is Telmisartan Used For?

Brand name: Micardis

Telmisartan tablets — sold as Micardis and the generic telmisartan — treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Bringing blood pressure down lowers the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

Micardis and telmisartan tablets are also approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes in patients 55 or older who are at high cardiovascular risk and cannot take ACE inhibitors. This use is for patients with a history of conditions such as coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, stroke, TIA (mini-stroke), or high-risk diabetes with signs of organ damage.
