Valsartan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Theoretically, concomitant use of yohimbe and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.

Here's the thing about pairing yohimbe with valsartan: they're basically working against each other. Valsartan's whole job is to relax your blood vessels and bring your blood pressure down. Yohimbine, the active piece of yohimbe, does the opposite. It can tighten blood vessels and push blood pressure and heart rate up.

So in practice, yohimbe could blunt how well your valsartan controls your numbers. You might see your blood pressure creep back up, or notice a racing or pounding heartbeat. I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how these two work, not from big studies, so don't panic. But since yohimbe itself can be hard on the heart, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
