ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Insulin Degludec
Insulin Degludec falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Guarana interacts with.
Some conflicting reports claim that caffeine, a constituent of guarana, might increase or decrease blood sugar.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Tresiba (insulin degludec) is your long-acting background insulin, working steadily to keep blood sugar in range. The caffeine in guarana could nudge your blood sugar a little, but the reports are mixed. Some studies suggest caffeine may slightly raise blood sugar or blunt how well your body responds to insulin, while others show little or even a lowering effect. Honestly, the evidence here is weak and the chance of a real problem is low.
The practical takeaway: if you start using guarana regularly, just keep an eye on your glucose readings so you can spot any shift, whether that's a higher number or an unexpected low. Don't change your insulin dose on your own. A quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor is the safest move.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Insulin Degludec page
“Insulin degludec (Tresiba) is a long-acting insulin meant to hold blood sugar steady around the clock, which means anything else that pushes glucose down can push it too far. That is the story for nearly all 239 ingredients on this page, and the list warrants genuine caution.”

About Guarana
What is Guarana?
- Energy and alertness
- Reducing fatigue
- Weight loss support
- Athletic performance
- Mental focus
Guarana is an Amazonian seed that is naturally high in caffeine, which explains most of its stimulant and energy effects. While it may give a short-term boost in alertness and reduce fatigue, strong evidence for weight loss or major performance gains is limited, and it carries the same risks as too much caffeine. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have heart problems, anxiety, or are pregnant.
