Hemp + Trandolapril
Trandolapril brand name: Mavik.
Trandolapril falls into 2 drug categories that Hemp can interact with; the most serious is rated minor. Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Hemp interacts with whole categories of medication. Trandolapril falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Hemp in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Trandolapril
Trandolapril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hemp interacts with.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist with hemp and your blood pressure medicine. In a lab and animal study, a concentrated hemp seed protein seemed to nudge blood pressure down by gently blocking some of the same chemicals your trandolapril (Mavik) works on. In theory, that could add to its effect and lower your blood pressure a little more than expected. If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or tired, especially when standing up quickly.
That said, the evidence here is very weak. Hemp only dropped pressure in animals that were already hypertensive, and hemp seed oil didn't lower blood pressure in people. So normal food amounts of hemp seeds are unlikely to cause trouble. If you start a concentrated hemp protein supplement, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

ACE INHIBITORS (ACEIs)
2 of 2Trandolapril also falls under ACE INHIBITORS (ACEIs).
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist with hemp and your trandolapril (Mavik). Lab and animal work suggests that a concentrated hemp seed protein can act a little like an ACE inhibitor itself, which is the same job trandolapril already does. In theory, stacking the two could lower your blood pressure a bit more than expected. That might show up as lightheadedness, dizziness when you stand up, or feeling unusually tired.
Honestly, this is mostly theoretical. In real human studies, hemp seed oil didn't lower blood pressure, and eating hemp seeds as food is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated hemp protein supplements are the bigger question mark. ACE inhibitors can also nudge potassium up, so if you use hemp regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your blood pressure.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Trandolapril page
“Trandolapril (Mavik) treats high blood pressure, and I'd want anyone taking it to read this list of 149 supplements and herbs carefully, with the six major entries first (another 119 are rated moderate and 24 minor). Most of what's here either adds to trandolapril's pressure-lowering effect and can drop you too far, or pushes back agai…”

About Hemp
What is Hemp?
- Plant-based protein source
- Heart health support
- Skin and hair health
- Reducing inflammation
- General nutrition (omega fatty acids)
Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are nutritious foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they are generally safe for most people as part of the diet. While the nutrition is real, strong human evidence that hemp supplements treat specific medical conditions is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using hemp products for a health concern, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
About Trandolapril
What Is Trandolapril Used For?
Brand name: Mavik
Trandolapril tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used on their own or combined with other blood pressure medicines such as hydrochlorothiazide.
Trandolapril tablets are also used in stable patients who have reduced heart pumping function (left-ventricular systolic dysfunction) or heart failure that developed within the first few days after a heart attack. In Caucasian patients, trandolapril has been shown to lower the risk of cardiovascular death and reduce hospitalizations related to heart failure.

Trandolapril Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Trandolapril as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Hemp — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
