Tazemetostat Hydrobromide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Kava interacts with.

It is unclear if kava inhibits CYP3AA; research is conflicting.
Although in vitro research suggests that kava inhibits CYP3A4, more robust clinical evidence shows that kava has no effect on CYP3A4. In a clinical study in healthy volunteers, taking kava 1000 mg twice daily (containing a daily dose of 138 mg kavalactones) for 28 days had no effect on CYP3A4 activity.

Here's the quick picture for Tazverik (tazemetostat). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down. There was some early lab worry that kava might slow that enzyme, which in theory could let tazemetostat build up and bring on more of its usual side effects like fatigue, nausea, low blood counts, or infection risk.

The good news is that the better human research doesn't back that up. In healthy volunteers, kava had no real effect on CYP3A4. So this interaction is rated minor and unlikely. That said, kava carries its own rare but serious risk of liver damage, and your cancer team needs your liver working well. Please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before combining them.

What Is Tazemetostat Used For?

Brand name: Tazverik

Tazverik (tazemetostat) tablets are used to treat adults and patients aged 16 and older with metastatic or locally advanced epithelioid sarcoma (a rare soft-tissue cancer) that cannot be completely removed by surgery.

Tazverik is also used in adults with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma — meaning the lymphoma has come back or stopped responding to treatment — either when the tumor carries a specific EZH2 gene mutation (confirmed by an FDA-approved test) after at least two prior treatments, or when there are no other satisfactory treatment options. Both uses were approved based on response rates, and continued approval may depend on results from ongoing confirmatory studies.
