Dorzolamide, Timolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe bark, inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the thing to know about Cosopt eye drops: one of their ingredients, timolol, is a beta blocker that the body partly clears using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies suggest yohimbine (the active part of yohimbe) can slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more timolol build up in your system and lead to stronger beta blocker effects like a slower heart rate, low blood pressure, dizziness, or fatigue.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It comes only from test-tube research, not real patients, so it's more of a theoretical concern than a proven problem. Still, yohimbe on its own can raise blood pressure and heart rate, which works against a beta blocker. I'd run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. What Is Dorzolamide and Timolol Ophthalmic Used For?

Brand name: Cosopt

Dorzolamide and timolol ophthalmic eye drops are used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (higher-than-normal eye pressure without signs of glaucoma damage). It is specifically intended for patients who have not responded well enough to beta-blocker eye drops alone.

This combination is available as Cosopt, Cosopt PF, and Dorzolamide Hydrochloride and Timolol Maleate eye drops. Cosopt PF is the preservative-free formulation, which may be preferred for people sensitive to preservatives.
