Here's the gist for these two together. Lab studies suggest yohimbine (the active part of yohimbe) may block a liver enzyme called CYP2D6, which helps your body clear fluvoxamine. Since fluvoxamine is the active drug itself (not a prodrug that needs switching on), slowing its breakdown could let levels creep up. In plain terms, you might notice more of the usual fluvoxamine side effects, like nausea, drowsiness, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or headache.

I want to be honest though: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube work, not real people. On top of that, yohimbe itself can spike your blood pressure and heart rate, which is its own concern. Before pairing them, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inhibitors might increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe bark.
In vitro and clinical research shows that the yohimbe bark constituent, yohimbine, is metabolized by CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, drugs that inhibit CYP3A4 might increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine.

Here's the situation if you're thinking about pairing yohimbe with your fluvoxamine (Luvox). Fluvoxamine is a strong blocker of a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and that same enzyme is one of the main ways your body breaks down yohimbine, the active piece of yohimbe. So when fluvoxamine slows that enzyme down, yohimbine can hang around longer and build up higher than expected.

The practical worry is that you'd feel more of yohimbe's harsh effects: a racing heart, jittery or anxious feelings, and spikes in blood pressure. That's especially unwelcome since you're already treating anxiety. I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how the two work rather than hard human studies, but it's a real possibility. Here's the gist for your Luvox. Fluvoxamine is cleared from your body partly by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In lab dish studies, yohimbe seemed to speed that enzyme up. If that holds true in real life, your body might break down fluvoxamine a little faster, which could nudge its levels down and make it work less well. For an OCD or social anxiety medicine, that might mean your symptoms creep back.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube research, and it's rated minor, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger issue is yohimbe itself, since it can spike blood pressure and heart rate. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. What Is Fluvoxamine Used For?

Brand name: Luvox

Both fluvoxamine maleate tablets and Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — a condition marked by unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that cause significant distress or interfere with daily life.

Fluvoxamine maleate tablets are approved for adults and for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17. Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved for adults with OCD; their use in pediatric patients naive to fluvoxamine requires special prescriber consideration regarding the lowest available dose.
