Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Hydrochlorothiazide, Methyldopa
Hydrochlorothiazide, Methyldopa falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Theoretically, concomitant use of yohimbe and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to keep in mind: your combination pill pairs hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill) with methyldopa, and both work to bring your blood pressure down. Methyldopa in particular calms certain nerve signals that would otherwise tighten your blood vessels. Yohimbe works in the opposite direction. Its active compound, yohimbine, can raise blood pressure and speed up your heart rate.
So adding yohimbe could partly cancel out what your medicine is doing, meaning your numbers may creep back up. This is a theoretical concern based on how these work, not hard proof, but it makes sense to be careful. Please don't change anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before trying yohimbe.

About Yohimbe
What is Yohimbe?
- Erectile dysfunction
- Low sex drive
- Sexual performance
- Weight loss
- Athletic performance
Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
