Theoretically, yohimbe might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe bark, inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist with olanzapine (Zyprexa) and yohimbe. Your body partly clears olanzapine using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab studies, yohimbine (the active piece of yohimbe) appears to slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more olanzapine build up, which might mean stronger sedation, dizziness, weight gain, or a drop in blood pressure when you stand up.

I want to be honest though: this is only test-tube evidence, so it's a possible concern, not a proven one. CYP2D6 is actually a minor pathway for olanzapine, so the real-world effect is likely small. The bigger worry is yohimbe itself raising your heart rate and blood pressure. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, yohimbe might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.

Here's the gist for olanzapine (Zyprexa). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break this medication down. Lab studies suggest yohimbe may speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could clear olanzapine a little faster, which might make it slightly less effective at controlling symptoms like disturbed thinking or mood swings.

The good news: this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube research, not on people, so the real-world impact is likely small. Honestly, yohimbe's own risks (high blood pressure and a racing heart) worry me more. Before adding any yohimbe product, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Olanzapine

What Is Olanzapine Used For?

Brand name: Zyprexa

Olanzapine treats schizophrenia and the manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder in both adults and adolescents (ages 13–17). It can also be used alongside valproate or lithium to treat manic or mixed episodes in adults. When combined with fluoxetine, olanzapine tablets and orally disintegrating tablets are used to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and treatment-resistant depression in adults.

Olanzapine intramuscular injection (short-acting) is used by healthcare providers to quickly calm acute agitation in adults with schizophrenia or bipolar I mania. Zyprexa Relprevv — a separate, long-acting intramuscular formulation available only through a restricted program — is indicated specifically for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.
