Phenoxybenzamine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Theoretically, concomitant use of yohimbe and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.

Here's the interesting tug-of-war with these two. Phenoxybenzamine works by blocking alpha-1 receptors to relax your blood vessels and tame the blood pressure spikes and sweating from a pheochromocytoma. Yohimbe contains yohimbine, which pushes in the opposite direction by blocking alpha-2 receptors and can actually raise blood pressure and speed up your heart. So on paper, yohimbe could partly undo the blood pressure control you're counting on from phenoxybenzamine.

This is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds act, not strong human studies, so I don't want to alarm you. But given that pheochromocytoma already causes dangerous surges in blood pressure, this is one I'd steer clear of. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before trying yohimbe.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

What Is Phenoxybenzamine Used For?

Brand name: Dibenzyline

Phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride capsules are used to treat pheochromocytoma — a rare tumor of the adrenal gland that releases large bursts of stress hormones, causing dangerous spikes in blood pressure and heavy sweating. The capsules help keep those episodes under control.

If the heart rate becomes too fast during treatment, a doctor may also prescribe a beta-blocker alongside phenoxybenzamine.
