Theoretically, CYP3A4 inhibitors might increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe bark.
In vitro and clinical research shows that the yohimbe bark constituent, yohimbine, is metabolized by CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, drugs that inhibit CYP3A4 might increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine.

Here's the way this one works. Your Annovera ring releases two hormones (segesterone and ethinyl estradiol), and the estrogen portion can mildly slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme. Since yohimbine, the active piece of yohimbe bark, is broken down by that same enzyme, the idea is that yohimbine could clear out of your body a little more slowly and build up. That could make yohimbe's stimulant-type effects stronger, things like a racing heartbeat, jitteriness, anxiety, and spikes in blood pressure.

I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs are processed, not something proven in real patients. The bigger worry is simply that yohimbe itself can be risky. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the bottom line on Annovera (the segesterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol vaginal ring) with yohimbe. In lab dish studies only, yohimbe seemed to speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which plays a small role in handling the estrogen part of your ring. In theory, faster clearance could mean slightly lower hormone levels. Honestly, though, this is rated as a minor, theoretical concern based on test-tube data, not real people.

I wouldn't lose sleep over your birth control suddenly failing from this. My bigger worry with yohimbe is its own side effects, like racing heart and high blood pressure. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

Annovera is a vaginal ring that releases two hormones, segesterone and ethinyl estradiol, to prevent pregnancy. Both hormones are partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some lab research suggests yohimbe might speed up that enzyme, which could lower your hormone levels a bit. In theory, that might make the ring slightly less reliable and could lead to breakthrough bleeding or spotting.

I want to be honest about how weak this is. It comes only from test-tube studies, not from people, so we really don't know if it matters in real life. The bigger reason to be cautious with yohimbe is its own risk of raising blood pressure and heart rate. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
