Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Here's the gist for your Capozide (captopril plus hydrochlorothiazide): the worry on file is that hemp seed protein might gently lower blood pressure too, possibly by nudging the same ACE pathway that captopril already blocks. In theory, stacking the two could add up and drop your pressure a little more than expected, which might leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or tired, especially when you stand up quickly.

But honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. The evidence comes only from animal lab studies, and in those, hemp lowered pressure in high blood pressure animals but not normal ones. In actual people, hemp oil didn't budge blood pressure at all. Food amounts of hemp seeds are very unlikely to matter. If you start a concentrated hemp supplement, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up.

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Here's the short version: this is a very minor, mostly theoretical concern. In a lab and in one animal study, concentrated hemp seed protein acted a little like an ACE inhibitor, which is the same family your captopril belongs to. In theory, stacking the two could nudge your blood pressure down a bit more than expected. But when researchers gave actual people hemp seed oil, it did not lower blood pressure, so the real-world risk looks small.

If you ever did notice extra lowering, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy when standing, or unusually tired. Since captopril can also raise potassium, it's reasonable to keep an eye on that too. Eating hemp seeds as food is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using a concentrated hemp protein supplement, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep checking your blood pressure.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
