Chlorthalidone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Here's the gist: hemp seed protein has been studied in animals, where it seemed to nudge blood pressure down a little by acting somewhat like an ACE inhibitor. Chlorthalidone is a water pill that also lowers blood pressure. So in theory, pairing the two could add up and push your pressure a bit lower than expected.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. The evidence comes only from animal studies, and in normal-blood-pressure animals hemp had no effect at all. In people, hemp oil didn't lower blood pressure. Food amounts of hemp seeds are very unlikely to cause trouble. If you ever feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Chlorthalidone Used For?

Brand names: Hygroton, Thalitone

Chlorthalidone is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Chlorthalidone is also used as an add-on treatment for edema (fluid buildup) caused by heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. Thalitone is additionally indicated for edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease including nephrotic syndrome.
