Aspirin, Carisoprodol, Codeine Phosphate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Kava interacts with.

Combining kava with CNS depressants can have additive sedative effects.
Kava has CNS depressant effects. Concomitant use of kava with other CNS depressants can increase the risk of drowsiness and motor reflex depression. Clinical practice guidelines from a joint taskforce of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP) and the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT) recommend that CNS depressants, including alcohol and benzodiazepines, not be used with kava.

This combination product packs two ingredients that already calm the brain: carisoprodol (a muscle relaxant) and codeine (an opioid pain reliever). Kava adds its own sedating, calming effect on top of theirs. When you stack them, those effects pile up, and that's the real concern here.

Together you could feel much more drowsy, dizzy, foggy, or unsteady than expected, with slowed reflexes that make driving risky. In bigger doses, opioids like codeine can slow breathing, and adding kava may deepen that. There's also a liver caution, since both kava and the acetaminophen-free aspirin part can stress the body. The guidelines flatly advise against mixing kava with sedating medicines like this. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, kava might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that kava significantly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not yet been reported in humans.

This combination pill (Soma Compound with Codeine) mixes aspirin, the muscle relaxant carisoprodol, and codeine. The piece that connects to kava is carisoprodol, which your body partly breaks down using a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. In lab dishes, kava appears to slow that enzyme down. If that also happens in people, carisoprodol could build up a bit, which may add to drowsiness, dizziness, or grogginess. Since both kava and this medicine are already calming, that sedation could stack up.

Here's the honest part: this is only seen in test-tube studies, not in real patients, so it's theoretical. Even so, kava can stress the liver, and so can aspirin. Please run this past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

It is unclear if kava inhibits CYP1A2; research is conflicting.
In vitro research shows that kava extract significantly inhibits CYP2D6. However, clinical research shows that kava does not affect the metabolism of CYP2D6 substrates in humans.

This combo product (Soma Compound w/ Codeine) contains codeine, which is a prodrug. Your body has to convert codeine into morphine using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 before you get much pain relief. In a test tube, kava looked like it might block that enzyme, which in theory could mean weaker pain control and possibly more lingering codeine. But here's the reassuring part: actual studies in people showed kava did not meaningfully change how CYP2D6 handles medications. So this particular concern is rated minor and unlikely.

My bigger real-world worry is overlap, not enzymes. Kava is calming, and so are codeine and carisoprodol. Stacking sedatives can add up to extra drowsiness, dizziness, or slowed breathing. Kava can also stress the liver. Please run this past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
