Theoretically, using kava with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
Kava has been linked with over 100 cases of hepatotoxicity. Most cases occur with excessive and prolonged use. There is some concern that kava can adversely affect the liver, especially when used in combination with hepatotoxic drugs.

Here's the thing with kava and Lumiracoxib: this isn't about one changing how the other works in your bloodstream. It's that both can be tough on your liver. Lumiracoxib (Prexige) is an anti-inflammatory that was actually pulled from several markets because of serious liver injury, and kava has its own track record of rare but real liver damage. Stack the two and you may simply be adding strain on the same organ.

To be fair, this concern is theoretical and based mostly on scattered case reports, not strong studies. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.

Lumiracoxib also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, kava might increase levels of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that kava significantly inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes. This effect has not yet been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with kava and Lumiracoxib (Prexige). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down and clear lumiracoxib. In lab studies, kava appears to block that same enzyme. If that holds true in people, the medication could be cleared more slowly and build up a bit, which may mean more of its usual NSAID-type side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, or, less commonly, kidney or blood pressure issues.

I want to be honest though: this is only seen in test-tube research, not in real patients, so it's theoretical for now. One extra note, both kava and this drug can stress the liver, so combining them isn't ideal. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
