Yohimbe + Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate
Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate brand name: Tritec.
Yohimbe has a moderate interaction with Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate. CYP2D6 inhibitors may increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) INHIBITORS
Why this applies to Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate
Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) INHIBITORS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.
In vitro and clinical research shows that the yohimbe bark constituent, yohimbine, is metabolized by CYP2D6 isoenzymes. Paroxetine, a cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 inhibitor, increases the maximum serum concentration of yohimbine and reduces the clearance of yohimbine compared to yohimbine alone in patients who are extensive CYP2D6 metabolizers..
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the key point: it's the yohimbe that gets affected here, not your ranitidine bismuth citrate. Yohimbe's active compound, yohimbine, is broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Ranitidine can mildly slow that same enzyme, so the yohimbine may not clear out as quickly and can build up in your body.
When yohimbine levels run high, the typical complaints are a racing or pounding heart, spikes in blood pressure, anxiety, jitteriness, and trouble sleeping. So pairing the two could make yohimbe's side effects feel stronger than expected. Your heartburn treatment itself shouldn't change much. Honestly, yohimbe supplements are unpredictable to begin with, so please run this combination by your pharmacist or doctor before using them together.

About Yohimbe
What is Yohimbe?
- Erectile dysfunction
- Low sex drive
- Sexual performance
- Weight loss
- Athletic performance
Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
About Ranitidine
What Is Ranitidine Used For?
Brand name: Tritec
Ranitidine is used to treat several acid-related stomach and esophageal conditions. These include active duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the small intestine) and benign gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease, or chronic acid reflux), erosive esophagitis (irritation and damage to the esophagus from acid), and pathological hypersecretory conditions — rare disorders where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and systemic mastocytosis. It is also used as maintenance therapy to keep ulcers and esophagitis from coming back after healing.
Over-the-counter products Acid Reducer and Wal-Zan tablets are specifically labeled to relieve heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach, and to prevent heartburn brought on by certain foods or beverages.
