Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Guarana interacts with.

Theoretically, using guarana with diuretic drugs might increase the risk of hypokalemia.
Guarana contains caffeine. Caffeine, especially in excessive amounts, can reduce potassium levels due to stimulation of the sodium-potassium pump. Diuretics can also lower potassium levels.

Here's the thing to know about pairing guarana with your Capozide. The hydrochlorothiazide part is a water pill, and one of its known effects is lowering your potassium. Guarana is loaded with caffeine, and in larger amounts caffeine can nudge potassium down too. Put them together and, at least in theory, you could end up with lower potassium than you'd want.

This is only a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not from strong studies, so please don't panic. A little guarana in a soda probably won't matter. But if low potassium does happen, you might feel muscle cramps, weakness, tiredness, or notice your heart skipping beats. If you regularly use guarana or energy products, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can check your levels.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
