Hemp and Pramlintide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Pramlintide and Hemp in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Hemp safety at a glance

Hemp overall Use caution Hemp seed foods are generally well tolerated, but concentrated extracts and supplements are less studied.
Pregnancy Use caution Hemp seed foods are likely fine in normal amounts, but concentrated extracts should be avoided due to limited safety data.
Breastfeeding Use caution Food amounts of hemp seed are likely okay, but supplements and extracts are not well studied, so caution is advised.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Pramlintide

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Pramlintide is filed under a single classification — antidiabetes drugs. Hemp has documented interactions with 6 drug classes — the most serious being estrogens (moderate), ace inhibitors (aceis) (minor) and anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (minor) — and none of Pramlintide’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Hemp Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Pramlintide. It is the side-effect record for Hemp on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Hemp, this list is the first place to look. 4 entries are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

“Orally, hemp products are generally well tolerated in food amounts. In larger amounts, hemp seed oil seems to be well tolerated.

    Serious Adverse Effects (Rare):

Orally: Rare cases of anaphylaxis have been reported. Long QT syndrome, torsades de pointes, and syncope have also been reported rarely.”

The hemp supplements provided cannabidiol (CBD), and possibly cannabigerol (CBG). Although the exact dose is unknown, up to six times the recommended dose had been used for approximately 6 weeks, in combination with a supplement containing berberine.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Hemp — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Pramlintide’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Pramlintide column appears here.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Pramlintide

This page covers Hemp only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Pramlintide page lists 239 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Siberian Cocklebur (major), Acai (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate), Agaricus Mushroom (moderate) and Agmatine (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 208 moderate · 30 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pramlintide page

“The single entry rated major on the pramlintide (Symlin) list is Siberian cocklebur, which has caused severe hypoglycemia in humans, not just in lab studies. That matters more than usual here because pramlintide is injected at mealtimes alongside insulin, and a dangerous low is already the main hazard of that pairing.”

About Hemp

What is Hemp?

Hemp
  • Plant-based protein source
  • Heart health support
  • Skin and hair health
  • Reducing inflammation
  • General nutrition (omega fatty acids)

Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are nutritious foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they are generally safe for most people as part of the diet. While the nutrition is real, strong human evidence that hemp supplements treat specific medical conditions is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using hemp products for a health concern, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Hemp is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Hemp record says about it on its own.

Hemp: dosing

There is no official standard dose for hemp as a supplement. As a food, people often add a few tablespoons of hemp seeds, oil, or protein powder to meals and snacks.Because products vary widely in strength and form, the best approach is to follow the directions on the product label. They can help you decide whether it is a good fit and what amount may be reasonable for you.

About Pramlintide Injection

What Is Pramlintide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Symlin

SymlinPen (pramlintide) is used as an add-on treatment for adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who already use mealtime insulin but still haven't reached their target blood sugar levels — even with optimal insulin therapy.

It is not a replacement for insulin. It works alongside insulin, given right before major meals, to reduce the spike in blood sugar that happens after eating.
