Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

Theoretically, yohimbe might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Theoretically, concomitant use of yohimbe and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.

Here's the gist: your Capozide (captopril plus hydrochlorothiazide) is working hard to bring your blood pressure down. Yohimbe pulls in the opposite direction. The yohimbine in it blocks a receptor that can tighten blood vessels and rev up your heart, so it tends to push blood pressure up and can speed up your pulse.

Put them together and yohimbe may partly cancel out your medicine, making your numbers harder to control. To be fair, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how yohimbine works, not strong proof. Still, over-the-counter yohimbe doses are unpredictable. Before trying it, please check with your pharmacist or doctor, and don't change your blood pressure medicine on your own.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
