Here's the gist for Pomalyst (pomalidomide): your body partly clears this drug using a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab studies hint that yohimbe may speed that enzyme up (called induction). In theory, a faster enzyme could clear pomalidomide a little quicker, which might slightly lower its levels and make it work less well against your myeloma or Kaposi's sarcoma.

I want to be honest about the strength here. This is only a test-tube finding, not something proven in people, so the real-world effect is uncertain and likely small. Still, given how serious the conditions pomalidomide treats are, I wouldn't add yohimbe on your own. Yohimbe also raises blood pressure and heart rate, which is its own concern. Please run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Here's the gist for Pomalyst (pomalidomide). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this medicine down. Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Because of these safety concerns, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Pomalidomide

What Is Pomalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Pomalyst

Pomalidomide capsules are used in adults with multiple myeloma (a blood cancer affecting plasma cells) who have already tried at least two prior treatments — including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor — and whose disease has continued to progress. It is given in combination with dexamethasone for this use.

Pomalidomide capsules are also used to treat Kaposi sarcoma (KS) — a cancer that can cause lesions on the skin and in internal organs — both in adults with AIDS-related KS after antiretroviral therapy has stopped working, and in adults with KS who are HIV-negative. The KS indication was approved based on response rate; ongoing studies are confirming long-term benefit.
