Hemp + Naproxen, Sumatriptan
Naproxen, Sumatriptan brand name: Treximet.
Naproxen, Sumatriptan falls into 2 drug categories that Hemp can interact with; the most serious is rated minor. Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Hemp interacts with whole categories of medication. Naproxen, Sumatriptan falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Hemp in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Naproxen, Sumatriptan
Naproxen, Sumatriptan falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Hemp interacts with.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Treximet combines naproxen (an NSAID) with sumatriptan (a migraine medicine). The piece that matters here is the naproxen part, since NSAIDs already have a mild blood-thinning effect of their own. The thinking is that hemp seed might nudge that effect a little further, theoretically raising the chance of bruising, stomach upset, or bleeding.
Honestly, the evidence behind this is thin. It comes from a lab and animal study, and in actual people, hemp seed oil at 2 grams a day for 12 weeks did not change how platelets clump together. Eating hemp seeds as food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you take Treximet regularly and want to use concentrated hemp supplements, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Naproxen, Sumatriptan also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Treximet combines naproxen (an anti-inflammatory) with sumatriptan (a migraine medicine). The note on file is about hemp possibly speeding up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In theory, a faster enzyme could clear these medicines a little quicker, which might make them slightly less effective, so your migraine relief or pain control could feel a touch weaker.
Here is the honest part: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab and animal studies, not real patients. Neither drug relies heavily on CYP1A2, so any effect is likely small. Everyday food amounts of hemp seeds or oil should not be a problem. If you take concentrated hemp supplements regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well your medicine works.

About Hemp
What is Hemp?
- Plant-based protein source
- Heart health support
- Skin and hair health
- Reducing inflammation
- General nutrition (omega fatty acids)
Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are nutritious foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they are generally safe for most people as part of the diet. While the nutrition is real, strong human evidence that hemp supplements treat specific medical conditions is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using hemp products for a health concern, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
