Theoretically, kava might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that kava significantly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not yet been reported in humans.

Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C19 to help break down abrocitinib (Cibinqo). Lab studies suggest kava can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, abrocitinib could clear more slowly and build up in your system, which may make its effects and side effects stronger. With this drug, that could mean things like nausea, headache, acne flares, or a higher chance of infections, since abrocitinib already calms the immune system.

Here is the honest part: this is only seen in test-tube research, not in people, so it is theoretical for now. There is also a separate concern that both kava and abrocitinib can stress the liver. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change anything on your own.

Here's the gist for Cibinqo (abrocitinib) and kava. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to help clear abrocitinib. Lab studies suggest kava can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, abrocitinib could build up a bit higher than usual, which might mean stronger effects and a greater chance of side effects like nausea, headache, acne, or the immune-lowering effects this medicine already has.

What Is Abrocitinib Used For?

Brand name: Cibinqo

Cibinqo (abrocitinib) is used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is specifically for people whose eczema has not been adequately controlled with other systemic (whole-body) treatments, including biologics, or when those treatments are not a safe option.

Cibinqo is not recommended to be used at the same time as other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, or other immunosuppressants (medicines that reduce immune system activity).
