Salmeterol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the short version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down salmeterol (Serevent), and some lab research suggests hemp might speed that enzyme up a little. If that happened in real life, your body could clear salmeterol a bit faster, which in theory might make it work less well. For an inhaler you rely on, that could mean a touch less control over wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness.

I want to be honest about how weak this is, though. It comes only from test-tube studies, not from people, and it's rated a minor interaction. Eating hemp seeds or hemp oil as food is very unlikely to cause any trouble. If you use concentrated hemp supplements and notice your breathing isn't as well controlled, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Salmeterol Oral Inhalation

What Is Salmeterol Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand name: Serevent

Serevent Diskus (salmeterol inhalation powder) is used for three main purposes: treating asthma in patients aged 4 and older alongside an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), preventing exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in patients aged 4 and older, and providing long-term maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD — including chronic bronchitis and emphysema — in adults.

Important: Serevent Diskus is not a rescue inhaler. It will not relieve a sudden asthma or COPD attack. For asthma, it must always be used together with an inhaled corticosteroid — using it alone for asthma is contraindicated due to a serious risk of asthma-related death.
