Doxazosin Mesylate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the simple version: Doxazosin (Cardura) already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Danshen, in lab and animal studies, seems to do something similar and can nudge blood pressure down too. Put the two together and those effects may stack up, so your pressure could dip lower than you want.

In real life, that might show up as feeling dizzy or lightheaded, especially when you stand up quickly, along with possible fatigue or even fainting. Doxazosin is already known for a 'first-dose' drop in blood pressure, so adding Danshen could make that worse. I want to be honest: this concern is mostly theoretical and based on animal data, not strong human studies. Still, before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Doxazosin Used For?

Brand name: Cardura

Doxazosin tablets (Cardura, Doxazosin, Doxazosin mesylate) are approved to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — an enlarged prostate that causes urinary problems — and to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. Doxazosin tablets may be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Cardura XL (the extended-release tablet) is approved only for BPH symptoms. Cardura XL is not approved for high blood pressure.
