Penbutolol Sulfate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the gist: penbutolol (Levatol) already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and slowing your heart rate. Danshen may have its own mild blood-pressure-lowering effect, so stacking the two together could push your numbers down a little more than expected. If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or wobbly when you stand up quickly.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this concern comes mainly from animal and lab studies, not solid human trials, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Danshen, and keeping an eye on your blood pressure at home is a smart move.
