Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that danshen tincture and various constituents of danshen inhibit the activity of CYP1A2. However, this activity has not been shown in humans when theophylline, a CYP1A2 substrate, was used as a target drug.

Here's the gist with Limbitrol DS (amitriptyline plus chlordiazepoxide): one pathway your liver uses to clear the amitriptyline part is an enzyme called CYP1A2. In lab dish studies, Danshen seems to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in your body, amitriptyline could build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat. The chlordiazepoxide side can add to that sleepy, foggy feeling.

That said, this is mostly theory. When researchers tested Danshen against a real CYP1A2 drug in people, they didn't see the effect, so the human risk looks low. Still, both of these medicines can already make you sleepy, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that various constituents of danshen inhibit the activity of CYP2C9. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Limbitrol combines amitriptyline (an older antidepressant) with chlordiazepoxide (a benzodiazepine for anxiety). The thinking here is that Danshen may block a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which helps clear certain medicines. If that pathway slows down, levels of this combo pill could creep up a bit, leading to more of its usual effects like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, or feeling overly sedated.

Honestly though, this is only a theoretical concern. It comes from lab dish studies, not from real people, and it has never actually been reported in humans. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since both of these drugs can already make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Danshen.

Danshen might alter the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Preliminary clinical research in healthy males shows that the administration of danshen for 10-14 days induces intestinal CYP3A4 and increases the clearance of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. The maximum concentration of midazolam was decreased by 31% to 67%, and drug levels were decreased by 27% to 80%. However, a single dose of danshen has the opposite effect, increasing maximum concentrations of midazolam by 87%.

Limbitrol combines two medicines: amitriptyline (an older antidepressant) and chlordiazepoxide (a benzodiazepine, like Librium). Both lean on the liver enzyme CYP3A4 to be cleared from your body. Here's where Danshen gets tricky. When taken regularly for a week or two, Danshen seems to speed up CYP3A4, which could lower the levels of these drugs and make them less effective. But a single dose appears to do the opposite, raising levels and possibly increasing drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or confusion.

This is based on early research using a different drug (midazolam), so it's a possible, not proven, concern for your combo. The safest move is to chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, rather than guessing.
