Why this applies to Lumiracoxib

Lumiracoxib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that various constituents of danshen inhibit the activity of CYP2C9. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Lumiracoxib (Prexige) is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever, and your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break it down and clear it out. Danshen has been shown in lab studies to slow that same enzyme. If it does the same thing inside the body, lumiracoxib could clear more slowly and build up, which may push up your risk of its usual side effects like stomach upset, stomach irritation or ulcers, fluid retention, and higher blood pressure.

The important thing to know: this concern comes only from test-tube research, and it has not been seen in real people. So treat it as a theoretical caution, not a proven problem. Danshen may also thin the blood a bit, which is worth keeping in mind. Before combining these, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
