Sulfamethoxazole, Trimethoprim falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that various constituents of danshen inhibit the activity of CYP2C9. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim) and Danshen. The sulfamethoxazole part is cleared in part by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. In lab studies, certain compounds in Danshen seem to slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let the antibiotic build up a bit higher than usual, which might mean a touch more chance of side effects like nausea, rash, or upset stomach.

The important part: this is only seen in test tube and animal research, and it has never actually been reported in real people. So it's a weak, theoretical concern, not something proven. Bactrim is usually a short course, which lowers the worry even more. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, since Danshen can also affect blood clotting.
