Acebutolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the gist: Danshen seems to have its own mild blood-pressure-lowering effect, at least in animal studies. Acebutolol is a beta blocker that already relaxes your blood vessels and slows your heart rate to bring blood pressure down. Stack the two together and they may push in the same direction, so your pressure could drop a bit more than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially standing up, tired, or a little faint. Keep in mind this comes from lab and animal work, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since you're managing blood pressure or heart rhythm, I'd run any Danshen supplement by your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

What Is Acebutolol Used For?

Acebutolol Hydrochloride capsules are used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. They can be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medications, particularly thiazide-type diuretics.

They are also used to treat ventricular premature beats — extra, out-of-rhythm heartbeats that originate in the lower chambers of the heart. Acebutolol reduces how often these abnormal beats occur, including complex patterns that can be more concerning.
