Amiloride, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Your combo pill, amiloride with hydrochlorothiazide, already lowers blood pressure by helping your kidneys flush out extra salt and water. Here's the thing about Danshen: in animal studies it seems to relax blood vessels and bring blood pressure down on its own. So if you stack it on top of your water pill, the two could add up and push your pressure a little too low.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or woozy when you stand up quickly. I'll be honest with you, this concern comes from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, before adding Danshen, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

What Is Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Moduretic, Amilzide, Moduret 25, Amil-Co

Amiloride hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) or congestive heart failure who tend to develop low potassium (hypokalemia) when taking a thiazide or other diuretic alone — or for whom keeping potassium levels in a normal range is especially important, such as people taking digoxin or those with significant heart rhythm problems.

The tablets may be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medicines, such as methyldopa or beta blockers. This combination product is not intended as the first-choice treatment for swelling (edema) or high blood pressure unless low potassium is a specific concern.
