Enalapril Maleate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the simple version: enalapril already lowers your blood pressure, and Danshen may nudge it down a little further. The two together could add up. In animal studies, Danshen lowered blood pressure on its own, and when paired with a related ACE inhibitor (captopril), the drop was stronger. So the concern is too much of a good thing.

If your pressure dips too low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and based on animal data, not solid human studies, so it may not be a big deal for everyone. Still, if you want to try Danshen, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first and maybe keep an eye on your blood pressure at home.

About Enalapril

What Is Enalapril Used For?

Brand names: Vasotec, Epaned

Enalapril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children older than one month, and to treat symptomatic heart failure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

It is also used for asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction — when the heart's pumping ability is reduced but the person doesn't yet have obvious heart failure symptoms — to slow the progression to overt heart failure and reduce hospitalizations. Enalapril maleate oral solution (including Epaned) and enalapril maleate tablets (including Vasotec) share these three approved uses.
