Ethacrynic Acid falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the thing to keep in mind if you're considering Danshen alongside ethacrynic acid (Edecrin). Your water pill already lowers blood pressure as it pulls extra salt and fluid out of your body. Danshen, based on animal studies, may also gently relax blood vessels and nudge blood pressure down. Stack the two together and the effects could add up, so your pressure may drop more than you'd expect.

What that can feel like is dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand, fatigue, or even fainting. I'll be honest with you though: this concern comes mostly from lab and animal research, not strong human studies, so it's more of a 'be aware' situation than an alarm bell. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

What Is Ethacrynic Acid Used For?

Brand name: Edecrin

Ethacrynic acid tablets (sold as Edecrin and Ethacrynic Acid) are used to treat edema — excess fluid that builds up in the body — when other, milder diuretics aren't strong enough. It treats edema related to congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease, including nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition that causes protein loss and swelling).

It is also used for short-term management of fluid buildup from malignancy (cancer-related ascites), idiopathic edema (swelling with no clear cause), and lymphedema (swelling from a blocked lymph system). In hospitalized children (not infants), it may be used short-term for edema related to congenital heart disease or nephrotic syndrome.
